Heating CPET trays - recommendations for distributers and food manufacturers

CPET trays are intended for single use of frozen and chilled food products and for heating in a conventional oven or in a microwave oven. The suggested temperature range is minus 40 to +2200C.

The following instructions are recommended for best results in heating food products:

Conventional oven

  1. It is recommended to use an oven with venting (turbo).
  2. The oven should be preheated to a maximal temperature of 1800C – 2200C prior to introducing the tray.
  3. Before introducing the tray into the oven, the lidding film should be perforated to enable the exit of vapors.
  4. The tray should be rested on a baking dish or a screen (maximal distance between bars 2 cm) inside the oven, preferably in the middle of the oven and away from the heating elements.
  5. At the end of heating, the oven door should be left open for a short period, and the tray should be removed carefully on the baking dish (since the plastic tray has softened at the high temperature) with gloved hands until cooled to some extent. The tray will return to its rigid state while the food is still warm and may be served.
  6. Time for baking or cooking may extend to 90 minutes at the mentioned temperatures.

Microwave oven
  1. Before introducing the tray into the oven, the lidding film should be perforated to enable the exit of vapors.
  2. Introducing the tray into the oven.
  3. The microwave oven should be adjusted according to the food condition in the tray, chilled or frozen, and according to the food manufacturer's recommendations.
  4. After heating, the trays should be removed carefully from the oven, placed on a flat surface and cooled for a few minutes before serving.

Oven toaster, oven with exposed heating elements, oven with an open fire, (such as gas), or grill should not be used for heating or baking food in CPET trays.
