Lighten Your Carbon Footprint with Foamed PP Cups

Lighten Your Carbon Footprint with Foamed PP Cups

It doesn't matter if you like tea or coffee, light or dark, disposable cups are a constant feature in our life, and they are probably made out of paper, plastic, or polystyrene foam. As we all know, what doesn't end in your stomach ends in the trash can, and so the question of sustainability comes into play.

The problem with disposable caps

Common sense might point to paper as the most environmentally friendly, being biodegradable and compostable, but the reality is that paper cups aren't made out of paper alone. Plastic lining used to prevent leakage in paper cups can take decades to break down, all while producing significant amounts of greenhouse gasses.

The process of converting trees into pulp, then producing the cups and adding coatings for insulation consumes significant resources and energy and creates a lot of toxic waste. PS caps can be a challenging choice as well. Due to the substantially lower production volumes compared to PE or PP, less than 10% worldwide, the recycling process for PS caps is not as economically viable.

Comparing carbon footprint in disposable caps

When comparing the carbon footprint in caps made of different materials, you see a pattern. Paper is actually the worst. If we feature PP cups as the standard, then paper emits 30% more. PS, on the other end, emits 12% less. It's clear that a more sustainable alternative is needed.

MPP Group's solution: our Foamed PP cups

Our disposable cups, made of foamed Polypropylene (PP) mono-material, aim to provide an alternative to both paper and foamed PS cups. This R&D project, leveraging MPP Group's expertise with the cooperation of an academic institute, is designed with sustainability in mind, boasting 100% recyclability and incorporating natural fillers and fibers.

It's not just eco-friendly though. The foamed PP cups offer excellent thermal insulation and high-temperature resistance, ensuring your hot drinks stay hot without burning your hands.

Our New Carbon Footprint Calculator is Coming Online Soon

In line with our commitment to transparency and sustainability, MPP Group is gearing up to launch a per-product carbon footprint calculator. This tool will allow customers to make informed decisions about their purchases, understanding the environmental impact of each product they use.

By providing these services, MPP Group is empowering its consumers to take control of their environmental impact, one cup at a time. Small changes such as these can add up to significant positive impacts on our planet, making it a better place to live in.
